OFF TO UNI?  It is not compulsory to re-register at a local GP practice. If you anticipate returning home regularly you are able to stay registered with Walford Mill Medical Centre.

You can continue receiving repeat medication to a local Pharmacy near your University whilst registered at Walford Mill Medical Centre. Just let us know the details of your chosen pharmacy prior to requesting your repeat prescription in the usual way and we can send this electronically.

Please note, certain medications cannot be sent electronically, however, we can advise you if this is the case. You will still be required to attend medication review and monitoring appointments.

If you have a long-term health condition or will be spending the majority of your time away, it may be sensible to register with a local GP practice of your choice.

Primary Care Networks - What does this mean for patients?

There is a national direction for all GP practices to work together to service populations of 30,000-50,000 with an aim to deliver improved services to those patients. This year is the first year of primary care networks (PCN's) and we are very fortunate to have Dr Anne Elder, a Walford Mill GP Partner as Clinical Director of the PCN. We are working with Quarter Jack Surgery, Old Dispensary, Orchid House and Penny's Hill Practice as Wimborne & Ferndown PCN. We will have access to a social prescriber and a potentially a pharmacist this year. These resources will be shared across the PCN practices. Many of you will be aware that this is not a new way of working for our practices as we have been working together to improved care as part of Castleman Healthcare. We aim to post regular updates on the PCN work however if you want to be more involved why not join our Patient Group who received regular emails and meet every quarter with our Practice Manager. Get in touch if you would like any further information.
